  World Bank delegation brief the Mayor on BRT project.  
  Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said BRT projects are beneficial for the city as these would provide convenience to citizens in their travel within the city especially those who works in industrial areas and have to travel daily on busy corridors. He said this in a meeting with the World Bank delegation which called on him in his office in KMC building to brief him on the BRT Yellow line project from Quaidabad to Numaish Chowrangi. The delegation comprised of three members apprised the mayor on the feasibility and other related aspects of the project. Senior director transport and communication S.M Taha, senior director municipal services Nauman Arshad and senior director coordination Masood Alam were also present in the meeting. Mayor Karachi said that this project should complete soon so that people in Landhi, Korangi and adjoining areas and especially factory workers in the industrial area could be facilitated. He said women were also in large number have to travel to the Korangi industrial area and having much problems in getting better transport facility therefore this project should also have better plan to cater to needs of the industrial zones too. Mayor Karachi said that presently transport system in Karachi was in worst condition and the road network also not in proper shape and the people were suffering due to this. He urged the world bank team to take into consideration all the requirements and conditions of the area where the project was going to built so it could be made durable and more beneficial for the citizens. He said that Karachi is commercial capital and business hub of Pakistan and therefor this city should be given importance in the national agenda for progress. He said that garbage disposal had become a big problem for Karachi as sixty percent of it dumped directly in storm water drains and caused their chocking. These drains are cleaned completely with a huge cost of Rs50 crore each year however due to negligence on the part of concerned organizations these again gets chocked with the garbage and waste. Mayor Karachi said that disposal of industrial waste was also needed in the city as this could become dangerous for the nearby localities in industrial areas. He said we have to work on urgent basis to solve such issues in the city. The land control was with many civic bodies making it hard to manage the municipal affairs properly. He on this occasion directed the officers to provide help and support to the world bank team for this project…
