  KMC setup dengue control cell in 14 major hospitals.  
  Karachi Metropolitan Corporation making joint efforts with provincial health department to control dengue fever and elimination of its virus. In the initial phase focal persons would be nominated besides setting up of dengue control cell in 14 major KMC hospitals whereas focal persons would also work at the district level and in order to ensure effective coordination among these focal persons and departments meetings will be held on regular basis. KMC and the provincial health department was initiating public awareness campaign in this connection. This was decided in a meeting held in the office of the Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman on Thursday which was attended by the program manager of provincial health department Dr Mehmood Iqbal Memon and others. This was informed in the meeting that though dengue control cell working round the year however especially in rainy season and during cold weather effective working is ensured to save the people from this virus. Metropolitan Commissioner said that special cell have already in working in KMC hospitals to control the dengue fever and now these are made functional again so that affectees of dengue virus could contact to their nearby hospital without wasting time. He said that these patients will be registered in hospitals and the provincial health department be kept informed on this. Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman said that it was essential that immediate diagnosis was done as this is the only way to save the life of patient. He said KMC would carry out large scale public awareness campaign to protect the citizen from this virus. It was also informed in the meeting that every year about two thousand people affected with dengue fever got necessary treatment and recovered too. Effective coordination between KMC and health department Sindh with good strategy brought considerable decrease in the number of deaths due to dengue fever. The dengue virus breeds in clean water therefore this should be ensure that the water tanks, drums, vessel, pots and bottles are properly covered up with nets on windows and covering of body parts at the sun rise and sun set time and applying protective lotion to save from mosquito bite and spray in the homes.
