Works department reconstructed a road between Metro and NIPA and made it motorable.

	Administrator and Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shallwani on Friday said that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation's Works department reconstructed a road between Metro and NIPA and made it motorable. The road was in deplorable condition from departmental store NIPA chowrangi and the people were facing hardhsips as the traffic jam remained, the Administrator said. He said that keeping in view importance of the road, he had directed to complete the work at the earliest as University of Karachi, NED University, Meteorological department office and other main offices are situated on the road. Director General Works Shabeeh ul Hassan said that the Administrator had passed the directives for immediate repair of the roads and make them motorable. He said that field force has also been established through which trucks having material to repair along with labour would remain on the road. He said that earlier, the road from Sohrab Goth to Liaquatabad No.10 had been reconstructed while road carpeting works at other roads are underway. The Administrator had taken notice of the dilapidated road condition and asked the works department to repair the same at the earliest. The KMC's works department carried out the works from its own expenses and around the clock. The Administrator directed that mechanism should be implemented with coordination of all departments to upgrade the road system. He said that it is essential to provide transport facilities to the people. "All measures are being taken in this regard and flyovers are also being maintained besides road," he added. He said the time duration of commutation decreases if the roads are in good condition. "In all big cities across the world, roads have been established through modern ways to facilitate the citizens as well as the industries," said Shallwani. He also called for mechanism for goods transport which he said cause traffic jam. A proper mechanism should be devised in this regard, he added.
